Hematopoietic Stem Cell (HSC)-Independent Progenitors Are Susceptible to Mll-Af9-Induced Leukemic Transformation
This is an original research article that reports the results of a 4-year long study that investigated the cell of origin in transgenic mouse models of childhood acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
We provided the first experimental evidence showing that embryonic hematopoietic stem cell (HSC)-independent progenitors are susceptible to leukaemic transformation upon acquisition of the Mll-Af9 chromosomal rearrangement, common in paediatric AML. These results will help identifying potentially targetable and fetal-specific therapeutic vulnerabilities of paediatric leukemias.
